BARCELONA

BARCELONA

Thanks goodness for Barcelona. Admittedly we are now feeling a little travel weary and tired of cities. However, things got better with this port call. It brought us back to enjoyment of trip and probably because we decided to keep things very simple.

Simple meant getting into a taxi and heading to the Musea Picasso. We went early to beat the lines and crowds and it paid off! We were in like a shot and spent several hours wandering around the galleries and watching Picasso develop as an artist before our eyes. The museum building itself is down a small alley, is made of brick and the plants and light help it feel personal and calm. The galleys are small and easy.

After a whirl through the museum gift shop we found a nice, small Catalan-style restaurant where for 2 hours we ate tapas and I drank the best Sangria I have ever had.

There was still time for a visit to the Sagruda Familia, an beautiful unusually constructed cathedral.

The one off-putting thing in Barcelona is the presence of many soldiers and their weapons.

By the way, Google Translator is a godsend in cases where the taxi drivers speak no English! It was one of the ways we ended up really going where we wanted to. That being said, taxi drivers in most places speak pretty good English – except in Spain!

We now have only one stop left before Southampton – the city of Cadiz. That is tomorrow!

Feels like we have about 5 minutes left of this trip, lol.
