Resting Up for a Big Ocean.
We had two stops after leaving Port Elizabeth and Africa. The first was the Reunion, a French island with a very broad cultural base, and Mauritius, another very multi-cultural island. Both were mountainous, both were beautiful. Reunion was an easy and fun place to look around in. Seafood with a French flair but with Indian and other spices made for a delicious lunch. A credit card takes care of dealing with currency exchange almost everywhere! We were there for only a short day and then sailed on toward Mauritius. There we opted for a day at a resort for swimming in the pool and Indian Ocean.
These islands remind of us other islands in different parts of the world – Caribbean, West Indies, even a hint of Hawaii. Beautiful, exotic and fairly isolated, but internet and social media have brought the world in. And container ships bring the world in. Every port, everywhere.
Global world.
Now off to cross the Indian Ocean. I’m nervous, but apparently we don’t have to worry about pirates until after India, lol.
