Cyprus and Back in Europe, mostly.
After the excitement of the Suez Canal we chose a simple quiet day in Limassol, Cyprus. A short taxi ride to the marina area got us to restaurants, people watching and a short ride to a beautiful and lively market area of narrow streets strong with upside down umbrellas strung overhead to provide shade and color.
Ken stayed at the restaurant watching the boats while I explored – in search of a backgammon (tavli) board which I had heard were made there and beautiful. No such thing – cheap and cardboard or missing parts. I obviously needed to do more homework to find what I was looking for.
The marina area was very modern – architecture, food, the people walking by. It was definitely a step back into Europe. The phone service was blazing fast and we were, too, in putting our phones back to work, lol. We thought we were used to being without them. Joke was on us!
We had a great day, though, and let it just slide by as we ate fried halloumi cheese and drank smoothies and coffee. Nice, simple day.
Entering back into a more European setting, we also realized how soon this trip is coming to an end. Naples, Rome, Barcelona and Cadiz to be followed by Southampton for a second as the ship leaves the same day we land to head back t o NYC.
Oh, no! Oh, yay!
