Hong Kong is bigger – in land size!
Ken says that Hong Kong seems to have doubled in size since he was last here in the nineties. To me it was an immense, vertical city and bursting at the seams.
We did head out to the Peak to have a wonderful view of the city from the top of the mountain. It was hard to take in the enormity of what lay below us. High rises as far as the eye can see – although not as much as Shanghai, maybe.
The Peak is full of shopping, food and people. Everywhere, people. Everywhere. We didn’t stay long but left to find non-ship food!
We lucked out at a great place with Dim Sum and a view of the city.
The games began when we were ready to head for the ship. I thought we should use Uber and Ken agreed. We got a response and saw the driver was only 7 minutes away. But we could watch on the phone as the driver got stuck in traffic, made turns and time for pick up went to 10 minutes. Every few minutes Ken would say “There’s a taxi.” Nope. I was focused on my Uber. And to be fair, when the driver got there she was good, spoke some English (as our Chinese is limited to hello, please and thank you!).
The sail away from Hong Kong was one of the best. We left early enough to be able to see all the way out of the huge harbor. That mean we got to see the immense projects underway to fill in the ocean. Not just fill in for a marina or entertainment venue, or a Ferris Wheel (they are everywhere!), but for large new high rise buildings. Miles of filling in the ocean! Is there a permit needed for this from the world??
No matter, Hong Kong is growing in land mass. I wonder how far and how long it takes to fill in an ocean.
