Melbourne – First Visit

Melbourne, the first time!

The weather in Australia during this visit was warm but not humid and being outdoors was great. It made exploring Melbourne a great treat. And Melbourne is designed to make it very easy to get around.

A quick shuttle bus into the center city put us at the river which is very Parisian with the riverbank is lined with boats, cruise boats move up and down, there are musicians, artists, and restaurant after restaurant. Once you cross the footpath over the river you are into the area filled with side streets closed to cars and filled with shops, food vendors, coffee shops, and people everywhere. The train station services the tram which runs along the river in either direction so it was easy to jump on and take off to different parts of the city area and jump back on to head back where you started. Must have walked 5 or 6 miles and learned what a multi-cultural city this is. No matter what type of food you want – Italian, Cantonese, burgers, fish/chips – its there!

Melbourne is a new and modern city but the river and the way allowances have been made for easy access to transport or walking is what I wish Detroit could copy. Great place to explore in and live.

One transgression: a stop of Starbucks (I’m sorry to say) but really wanted a chai latte, which for some unfathomable reason is not served on a ship filled with tea!! What is that about?

Back to the ship and a soak in Epsom salts! One nice thing about the Princess Grill level of rooms is that there is a wonderful tub, not to mention tons of closet room and living space.
